About
Each day we’re finding new ways to live and work that blur the lines between the physical and digital world. But where does privacy fit in? Where does security? Soon everything that can be connected will be connected. Billions of things are coming online. The Internet of Things - or IoT - is here.

Here Comes the Future
As we move towards a world of smart homes and cities, we’ll face a growing set of challenges. A world connected things includes your hot water heater to your child’s favourite toy fundamentally changes what it means to be online. And while these things come with huge benefits to our lives and economies, we need to know we can trust them.

Canada spoke, and we listened
Everyone has something to bring to the table when it comes to building a safer future online. This process is a great example of how Canada drew on the strengths and diversity of its citizens to create a safer connected future for everyone. Led by the Internet Society and its partners, the project worked with civil society, technology companies, academics, and developers to answer tough questions about IoT. Participants established three working groups to create recommendations focused on consumer education and awareness, network resiliency and the potential for a trustmark.

Leading by example
The Canadian Multistakeholder Process has laid important groundwork to improve IoT security, but the work has just begun. Just like the Internet is stronger when networks agree to work together, so are we. It’s up to all of us to champion its recommendations and make sure security a foundation of our connected future.
